This one is a little late, but not too bad. My schedule’s gotten borked by my piling too many things on my plate lately. Also, this strip is well and truly double-sized, so it took twice as long to finish.

I can breathe a small sigh of relief now that the comic’s down to one raccoon again. Soon it’ll actually star the title character instead of being all Watership Down meets Pom Poko up in here.

This one is late for a few reasons. The main one is that I spent a lot of the time I’d meant for Girlbot on getting a bunch of stuff ready to update over on my semi-auto-bio webcomic Welcome to Jinxville. I’ll be doing my best to update every weekday until I have every comic up that I drew about my summer last year. Check the past couple of newsposts on the site for more details.

I hope the other comics this week will be on time. CROSSIN’ MAH FINGERS!

(Also, plans for Stumptown are currently up in the air. My joint application with Mr. Shabet was denied due to overbooking, but I’m trying to see if someone with confirmed table space will take pity on me. No matter what, I’ll be there, though… The plane tickets are non-refundable.

With this post, Girlbot has been officially updating for an entire year! (Almost.) Happy anniversary, me!

I feel like I’ve made a lot of progress with Girlbot in this first year of its run. I’ve got a modest audience. I’ve updated 130 actual comic strips. I’ve continually upped my game in terms of art and story execution. (How successful I was at any of that is up to you, really.) I even made a little money.

I’ve got big plans for Girlbot, and I’m looking forward to seeing where I stand with it in another year. I’d eventually like to be able to put out a book, have a more frequent update schedule, make this my full-time job, blah blah blah. All things in good time, I guess. Fingers crossed.

As you read this, I’m probably busting my ass on Poorcraft and a rather more personal project, which I’ll be sure to tell you guys about soon.

Oh, and I’m updating that dumb Livejournal of mine again, for artwork-related stuff. Didn’t seem wise to let it languish.

And here’s another comic. Don’t have much to say other than that. I’m just really busy trying to juggle a million things at once, it seems like, so I don’t have many thoughts to spare.

Oh, one thing. It’s March now, but you can still get the February wallpaper if you donate. I’ll leave it up a little longer since I didn’t put it up at the start of the month. Expect something new and interesting for March. When I have the time to draw it.

If you’ll recall…

It doesn’t really affect the comic or anything, but my birthday is on Thursday. I’ll be turning 26. I guess I can still say I’m in my mid-20s?

Speaking of such things, Girlbot’s first yearly anniversary is coming up in a week. Not sure if I’ll do anything special for it. I should probably just focus on getting the story out of Raccoonville, which will be soon, I swear.

So this begins the first week of actual, authentic Girlbot updates in…ohhhhhh…over a month. I’ll do my best to keep from running any filler for a good while, unless an emergency comes up. Once again, I apologize for my originally-planned 2-3 week break running that long, but it was pretty necessary. I’ve still got a lot of things up my sleeve I can’t wait to work on. There’s only so many hours in the day.

I’ve gotten some really kind compliments on the new site. I’m glad everyone seems to appreciate the new improvements. It means a lot to know that the effort was well spent. If you see anything that looks off to you, though, please feel free to drop me a line or leave a comment telling me so. I still have a few bugs to work out.

IT LLLIIIIVVEESSSS

Oh, my god. You guys. First off, I’m sorry for it taking longer than it should have to get the site together and start updating again. Even leaving aside all the non-web design work I had to take care of, I had some aggravating technical problems in the final stretch of getting the new site launched. But obviously I conquered them, and look what a nice new website I have to show for it!

I hope you’ll notice the new, improved supplementary content sections I set up. The About page is actually a good introduction to the comic now, with a plot synopsis and character bios and such. The Archive is organized by story arc now, instead of by date. In the Store, you can now order prints of individual comics. I’ve also removed all the filler art and guest strips from the archive and placed them in the new Extras section. You’ll also be able to easily find the files for the free downloads I release periodically, like the Halloween masks and Valentine’s Day cards. The Links page isn’t done yet, but that’s on my to-do list for the week.

In addition to the extra sections, the site is also way snazzier-looking and easier to navigate. No more tiny little ComicPress nav buttons. I’m using the Webcomic plug-in now, which makes it way easier to have this bold new look. For extreme ease of navigation, you can also use the arrow buttons on your keyboard to go back and forth in the archives. Try it!

I really should take a moment to thank Joe Kovell of No Need for Bushido, who was indispensable in helping me code the new site. If you thought you had to wait a long time for me to get it working, just know that it could’ve been much, much worse if I’d had to figure out all the CSS and PHP myself.

On the minus side, I lost all the comments from the old site in the move, since I’m actually on a new server now. I also have ads, if you consider those a minus. They’re Project Wonderful ads, for now, so I have control over what goes in them. I promise I won’t allow any super obnoxious banners to be displayed on this site as long as that’s the case.

Anyway, regular updates will commence once more next week.

Right now, I can promise several cool things about the new site design:

• a more attractive interface
• easier navigation
• a new archive organized by story arc
• consolidated store section
• extras and filler material out of the archives and into their own section
• a more informative about section, with character bios and stuff

The site still need some more work before I can get it launched, so I’ll go do that now. BE EXCITED.
